Great Lakes Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Traverse
City, Michigan, where your Captain will meet you at
the airport and escort you to the city docks where you
will board Viaggio. Settle in and relax. After lunch,
cruise to the quaint antique fishing village of Northport
on the western arm of the Leelanau Peninsula.
Day 2: Cruise from Northport
to Leland to enjoy the restaurants and shops. From Leland
proceed to South Manitou Island, which is part of Sleeping
Bear Dunes Natl Lakeshore. Virtually uninhabited,
there is a beautiful white sand beach and the largest
stand of white cedar trees in the world.
Day 3: Cruise to Charlevoix,
Michigan where you can enjoy the shops, art galleries
and restaurants. Afterwards, take a leisurely ride down
Lake Charlevoix to Boyne City, enjoying water skiing
or tubing along the way. The golfers will have an opportunity
to hit the links at Boyne Highlands or any of the other
nearby golf courses.
Day 4: Leave Charlevoix
for a short cruise to Bay Harbor, a quaint man-made
community (similar to Vail, CO), known for its upscale
shopping, homes, and restaurants. Equestrian riding
and golf are both available here. Afterwards, proceed
to the historic resort town of Harbor Springs, long
time summer home to some of Michigans wealthiest
families.
Day 5 & 6: Leave Harbor
Springs and proceed north. You might decide to head
over to St. James Harbor on Beaver Island and spend
some time there, or continue under the Mackinac Straits
Bridge to historic Macinac Island. There are no cars,
transportation is provided only by bicycle, horseback
or horse-drawn carriage. You can cycle the eight-mile
circumference of the island, enjoy touring the historic
two forts, and visite the towns many quaint shops.
A visit to the Grand Hotel, boasting the longest outdoor
open air porch in the world, is always a delight.
Day 7: Take a picturesque
excursion through the Cheneaux Islands. Spend the night
at Hessel, a remote island anchorage, or return to Mackinaw
City for your departure from Pellston, a short ride
from the Mackinaw City Marina.
